Day 1 - Arrival Day - Dealu Mare Wine Region

Thursday 10th September

Arrive in Bucharest and meet your local English-speaking guide before travelling south into the Dealu Mare, one of Romania’s most renowned wine-growing areas. Set along the 45th parallel, this region shares climatic similarities with Tuscany and Bordeaux.

The afternoon is spent visiting a local winery, where you’ll explore the cellars and enjoy a guided tasting that introduces Romania’s indigenous grape varieties and modern winemaking techniques. Settle into your countryside accommodation before a relaxed welcome dinner featuring regional flavours.

Day 2 - Sparkling Wine, Bran Castle & Brasov

Friday 11th September

Leaving Dealu Mare, travel through the Prahova Valley to visit a historic sparkling wine producer that still uses the traditional Champagne method and once supplied Romania’s royal household. A cellar visit and tasting offers insight into heritage production methods.

Continue to Bran for lunch at the former tea house of Queen Marie, followed by a visit to the iconic Bran Castle, dramatically perched above the surrounding valleys.

Later, stop at a small family-run distillery to sample locally produced fruit brandies, before arriving in Brașov, a beautifully preserved medieval city framed by the Southern Carpathians. Dinner is enjoyed at a restaurant committed to sourcing ingredients from nearby small farms.

Day 3 - Brasov, Rotbav & Viscri

Saturday 12th September

Begin the day with a short walking tour of Brașov’s historic centre, followed by time at the city food market to explore seasonal produce and local specialities.

Travel on to the rural village of Rotbav to visit a mixed dairy and sheep farm. Here, you’ll learn about traditional pastoral farming, visit the sheepfold, and enjoy a farm-prepared lunch alongside tastings of handmade cheeses, with time to speak directly with the producers.

In the afternoon, continue to Viscri, a UNESCO-listed Saxon village. Explore the village by horse-drawn carriage, visit the fortified church, and see local craftspeople at work. Dinner is prepared by villagers using traditional Saxon recipes, and you’ll stay overnight in carefully restored heritage houses.

Day 4 - Szekler Traditions, Bicaz Gorges & Beer

Sunday 13th September

Enjoy a relaxed morning in Viscri before heading east into the Szekler cultural region. Stop for lunch at a traditional Szekler inn, where regional dishes reflect centuries-old culinary influences.

The journey continues through the dramatic landscapes of the Bicaz Gorges and past Red Lake before arriving in a small rural village to visit a local craft brewery. A guided tasting introduces you to small-batch Romanian beers rooted in local ingredients and community enterprise.

Arrive in Piatra-Neamț in the late afternoon, where dinner and overnight accommodation await.

Day 5 - Organic Farm, Cooking & Monasteries

Monday 14th September

Travel north, stopping at a small organic farm producing vegetables, fruit, grains, and oils. After a guided visit and tasting, take part in a hands-on cooking workshop, preparing local dishes using ingredients grown on site, followed by a shared lunch.

In the afternoon, continue into the Bucovina region, stopping at Voroneț Monastery, famed for its vivid frescoes and distinctive blue pigments. The day ends in Sucevița, where you’ll enjoy a traditional home-cooked dinner and overnight stay in a local guesthouse.

Day 6 - Pottery Traditions & Departure

Tuesday 15th September

After breakfast, visit the pottery centre in Marginea, known for its distinctive black ceramics made using centuries-old techniques.

Continue to Suceava, the former capital of the medieval Moldavia region, for a short walking tour before transferring to the airport for your onward flight.
